family orientated camp-outs, that include plenty of storytelling of the old days, when we needed and respected each other. Make it an annual event, that families will love so much, that it becomes a monthly event, full of fun, exercise, music, talent shows etc., then our children will have stories to tell of "Idlewild", just like our older citizens.
I belong to a Facebook group about abandoned places in Michigan. I posted some pix from Idlewild. They stirred a lot of interest. People are talking about road trips. I have always loved Idlewild, someday I will find a property there that is just right for me.
Idlewild, a fashionable vacation spot known "the resort that segregation built," has a slightly different history. Established in 1912, it was one of the earliest resorts established specifically for African Americans (yet it was created by white entrepreneurs.) Nevertheless, the resort was extremely popular as a vacation spot and a stop on the entertainment circuit for a veritable who's who of African American society. Today, the community is largely impoverished, having lost much of its seasonal population, but there are efforts underway to reinvigorate this once vibrant summer community.

The best way to do this is to make Idlewild, Michigan a household name.
